Non-Profit Work Experience
When I say working in the field of domestic violence is something I am passionate about, it's not campaign hyperbole. I've literally been doing this work since 1999.
Judge Dimple Malhotra spent the first six years of her career working on domestic violence issues in the non-profit sector. The newspaper articles and brochures below highlight some of her work, including a support group she started for south Asian women affected by domestic violence in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Wanting to make a broader impact on the lives of people dealing with family violence, the next chapter in her career saw her take on responsibility for running family violence units at both the misdemeanor and felony levels for Travis County. After over a decade of serving the community in that capacity, she decided to apply for the judicial vacancy created in Court 4 when the Hon. Judge Mike Denton stepped down. Her background and experience is why the Travis County Commissioners appointed her to this court over a number of other applicants. And her experience and dedication to this issue is why Travis County voters overwhelmingly supported her in the last election for this seat.
It is critical that the judge of this court understand the dynamics of these cases. This is not a place for on-the-job training. You need someone who can effectively and fairly balance the constitutional rights of the defendant with the safety of the community. Judge Dimple’s two decades of work in this field make her the best candidate for County Court at Law 4, the Domestic Violence Court.
